So you’re thinking, Massachusetts has mountain biking? Why yes it does. Offering a different style of riding that reminds me of the desert riding I do back home, but with some added flow, big jumps and drops.
While back east we were only able to spend 2 days in Mass. One day at the bike park and another trail riding. With time running out we rallied and were able to get a small sample of what is available to ride. If you pull up the TrailForks app there are almost 15,000 trails here. Quite wild for sure. We were told to check out Vietnam, Middlesex Fells,Thunder, and Lynn woods. Only getting to the latter of the four this go around.
Thunder Mountain Bike Park
Its a bike park! Thunder has been thrown in the conversation at one of the top bike parks in the North East. While I would agree its up there it wasn’t my number 1 pick. Maybe that’s because we only spend one day here. Either way it was worth the drive and we will go back again to test our skills and have some more fun.
Cat and Mouse was a great flow trail that twists and turns all over the place. Finding a good rhythm and speed was easy on this trail and confidence inspiring. The Gronk was also another favorite with some fun jumps that by the end of the day I could finally clear all but one or 2. Just need to trust myself more. For some technical riding Harold’s Blend, Loam Star, and Thunder Cliffs are worth checking out. Find your own flow and go there isn’t a bad choice of trails here. One that’s way over my skill level is Fort Hill. Pro line wood jumps and drops. Looks really cool if that’s your thing. for hours and pricing click here.

Lynn Woods
Well this place was tricky and technical. As we were reaching the end of our east coast adventures we just early squeezed this place in. At first it was a bit difficult to find the trail head as its in the parking lot of a dealership. Secondly there are very few to no trail signage at intersections. Making it difficult to navigate around. Trailforks is helpful but I hate looking at it every half mile wondering what way to go. We go lost a few times but ended up figuring it out.
As we kept riding we found it very difficult to keep momentum, once you stop its hard to get going again on that feature, rock section or area. Coming across a local who we chatted with for a minute he gave us some good insight and reassured us that doing 5-6 miles here is pretty taxing and nothing to be ashamed of. Lots of rock rolls and technical climbs in an area wit not much elevation. All in all it was fun to check out and would like to go back but follow someone around so I have a better feel for what to ride as its confusing for sure.
